The war is over, but we are beginning...

I've been thinking a lot lately about loss (big surprise). At the beginning of the week, my friend's father lost his battle with cancer. I've never met his father, but from knowing his son, I'm sure he was an incredible man. Having recently gone through this, I thought I'd have an idea of what to say, but I was speechless. This kind of loss is just beyond words - so I cried.

I cried for his loss.
I cried for my mom.
I cried for my family's pain
I cried for his family's pain.
And I creid for the fact that I didn't have the words or the strength that someone had for me on that dark day.

Like everyone, I hate cancer. It's the ultimate destroyer, taking lives and breaking hearts. But today I read a message from my cousin, and it brought me to tears as well. Though, this time they were tears of pride.

I hope you will read this entry entitled, Small kids, Big Lessons that Shannen wrote about her beautiful daughter Jaia. Mostly, I hope you read it because its true, and its inspiring, and it helped me to remember to keep fighting even though my family's war is over.
